Trips
- Work and play sometimes allows for fly fishing on some
very nice water. We
try to document them as best we can - and not just the big
fish.
Flint
Creek / Rock Creek, Missoula, MT, August 2003
- Another work trip and fortunate enough to get an evening
away fly fishing on Flint Creek with two friends from the Missoula office,
followed by a solo outing the next morning on Rock Creek.
Temperatures were in the triple digits during the day. No
fishing in the heat. Water temps would approach mid-70s. Catch
and release would not work as the oxygen levels drop with the
rise in water temps. Still managed to coax a few brown trout and
rainbows to the top of the water column. If you have an
outing you'd like to write a report on, please check out the Forums
& Reports section.

Pine
Creek, Alberta, July 2003 - After a long
week of "real work" for my employer, I finally had
the opportunity to get out for a long afternoon of Alberta fly
fishing. With two friends - Leon and George - from the
Edmonton office, we headed about 240 kilometers northwest of
Edmonton to Pine Creek outside of Whitecourt. A small
tributary of the Athabasca River, its tea colored water held
some nice grayling, a few wary bull trout and at least one
truly native Alberta trout - an Athabasca rainbow trout.

Bighorn River,
May 2002 - A two day spring fly fishing trip in late April to the Bighorn River in
Montana. Fishing was a little tougher than the previous year
but still productive. The plus side this year was drifting in
a great boat by NordWest in Billings. Check the Gear
section for more info on this and other drift boats.

Stillwater, May 2002 - A one-day side trip to the Stillwater
River in Montana in late April. The ice was barely off the
river. Despite the rain, gusty winds and ice dams, guide Bryan Knaub
from Old West Angler & Outfitters knows the river up and
down and put us into a number of good
spots.

Sauk
River, February 2002 - At least the scenery was beautiful. All the
conditions looked good. River gauges that had been showing
high flows finally dropped. Steelhead should have been moving
into the Sauk from the Skagit. The weather was just right, but
no solid hook-ups and only one or two cursory strikes for
friend Kevin and I during a long day.

Bighorn River, May 2001 - A three day fly fishing trip on the 'Horn. Even
with a pretty tank of a wooden drift boat, it was 3 days of some the
best fishing in a long time. Beautiful fish were caught both
sub-surface and on dries.
